Assalamualaikum Wr Wbr. My name is Mohamad Yusri Bin Hamid. Married with a son.
I received my education from a local Madrasah name Madrasah Wak Tanjong al-Islamiah. Soon after , I served my National Service (NS) for about two and the half years in the Singapore Police Force.
I still remember how happy I was when I finally completed my National Service. But later than found my self in a daze thinking about what am I suppose to do later.
Without much time to waste, I decided to join the 'Singapore Immigration' (back then known as SI) as a Junior Officer. After a while with SI, I then got married with my wife and then two yeras later, I became a father. I spend close to about 14 years in the service and have decided to continue my studies. In year 2010, I then decided to take up a diploma course - Diploma Pengajian Islam (DPI) organized by PERDAUS and Kolij UNITI Negeri Sembilan. At this point, I felt that it was the best option for me to pursue my study at University al-Azhar in Mesir (Egypt) once I've completed my diploma. But due to some unforeseen circumstances in year 2012, I was informed by PERDAUS and also Kolij UNITI that even if I managed to get the diploma, I will not able to further my studies in University al-Azhar. The reason was because there were cases of students forging the certificate. But even after going through that, I still insisted to complete my course and received my diploma in year 2010.
After receiving my diploma, I decided to resign from my current job with the Singapore Immigration (now known as Immigration & Checkpoint Authority). I then started to teach during weekends at a local madrasah called Simply Islam. At Simply Islam, I was given the trust to teach Islam in English Language. It came across as a challenge to me at first because it was my first time conducting lessons in English, But with the help from Allah, Brother Nasir (Principal Of Simply Islam) and also Ust Saleh I managed to make my way through it.
After teaching at Simply Islam for about a few months I decided to leave and started to reach out for another opportunity to teach as a full time Asatizah. I then started to work at al-Mukminin Mosque for about 3 years. I was first appointed as a Youth Development Officer then as a Dakwah Officer and finally I was offered the position as an Imam. But Allah knows better, due to some misunderstanding with the management, my contract was not renewed for the following year and on 20.1.2013 I then left the mosque.
After that incident, I was worried for my family's future what I was going to do but Alhamdulillah, with the help from Allah, I started a new career as a Taxi Driver with NTUC Comfort and at the same time I was given the opportunity to teach during weekends at Masjid Tentera. But after nearly a year, I left Masjid Tentera and continued with my service with NTUC comfort. I then managed to start a business with my family selling food at Clementi but at the same time was given an opportunity to teach IQRA at al-Mukminin Mosque but this time just as a part time teacher. I was given the trust to teach IQRA' in few classes for the adult and also the youth. About nearly two years, I then decided to leave al-Mukmini Mosque again and give up my small business. This was when 'learnjawi.com' was founded.
There are other places which I used to teach for example:
-
Masjid Ar-Raudhah - (Subject: Sijil Pengajian Islam (SPI) - organized by Masjid Ar-Raudhah)
-
Darul Hufaz - (Subject: Sijil Pengajian Islam (SPI) - organised by PERGAS)
I also used to conduct 'Kuliyah'at the following mosques:
-
Assyafaah Mosque
-
Firdaus Mosque
-
Mujahidin Mosque
Today, most of my classes are conducted at my home or at learnjawi office or thru online learning. Conducting religious classes at home has become a trend known as 'Home Based islamic Learning' and has been around for so many years since the time of our beloved prophet Muhammad SAW and 'learnjawi.com' is one of its kind. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic all classes will be conducted online.
I know my educational background is not that exiting. But still I pray to Allah and hope that I can still share this little knowledge that I have with you.
Lastly, Alhamdulillah I'm a ARS certified and my home and my small learning centre too are given the approval by MUIS as one of the IECP (Islamic Education Centres & Providers). A few hobbies that I would like to share are cycling, driving and riding a bike. However, my favourite thing to do during my free time is to listen and play music. If you are keen to listen to the songs I composed, you may head over to my YouTube Channel: Yusri Hamid or simply visit my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/bumihijau.studio/
That's all about me
