Why is it called 'learnjawi.com' ?

Originally it was an idea from one of my students. Sometimes after class we stayed for a while just for a little chat. He then suggested me to set up my own website with this name 'learnjawi.com' in order to let other people know about my classes. I found that it is a good thing to do and on top of that, I do like the name so I decided to go with it.

Secondly, I'm inspired by a book entitled 'Obor Ummah' published by PERGAS in year 2010. In this book I found out about one of our local asatizah almarhum al-Fadhil al-Ustaz Sheikh Abdullah Basmeih (1915-1996) whom also known as a writer and wrote many books and magazine during his era in his efforts to spread dakwah. Not only that, he was also known to be one of of the individual whom tried so hard to preserve Jawi text which is now unpopular in the Malay community.

Thirdly, according to the Malay history, during the earlier days when our great great grandfathers embraced Islam, they are known as 'Orang Jawi' and their countries are known as 'Negeri Jawi'. You may click the link below to find out more about the history.

Lastly, to me the word 'Jawi' represent us (Malay Community) and it is part of the Malay identity and history. If we said that preserving our language Bahasa, our dance joget, our songs Dondang Sayang is so important, well the same thing that must be done in preserving Jawi text because it is still part of our identity and history and now it will be the legacy that must be carry on for many years and generations to come and not to let it simply disappear and vanished.

 

With all these reasons, there's no more doubts to me that 'learnjawi.com' is the best name that suit this website and it's other media platform like YouTube Channel or the fb page and also the name for my small registered bussiness and learning centre, Alhamdulillah.
